Pinot Grigio can boast an important parent: it is, in fact, a bud mutation of Pinot Noir. Its origins can be traced back to Germany and France. Its characteristic color, gray tending towards pink, gives rise to copper-colored wines. In Italy it seems to have been imported from Burgundy by General Sambuy for his vineyards in the province of Como. From here it spread slowly in the three Venices and Lombardy. Only in the last few decades has it reached the other Italian wine regions.
